The overview effect is a cognitive shift reported by some astronauts while viewing the Earth from space. Researchers have characterized the effect as "a state of awe with self-transcendent qualities, precipitated by a particularly striking visual stimulus". The most prominent common aspects of personally experiencing the Earth from space are appreciation and perception of beauty, unexpected and even overwhelming emotion, and an increased sense of connection to other people and the Earth as a whole. The effect can cause changes in the observer’s self concept and value system, and can be transformative.

Our current being
We are living in discrepancy with our evolutionary set up. Humans in the Western world spend in average 83 % of our time indoors and more than XX hours pr. day interacting with non-natural entities like computerscreen and machines. This increasing disconnection from our evolutionary upbringing is causing many of the lifestyle related patological dys-functionalities of our generation (ref.) and out lifestyles is causing great imbalances in the ecosystems we both live in and depend upon for our current welfare.
How did we become what we are?
There are many cultural historic and epigenetic We subscribe to the idea of The three pivotal ecological crisis.
1. Privatization of Land and the Agricultural revolution
For the first time in human history claim ownership and passion of land by marking it physical makers and the escalation of the change in relationship with the land from sacred to utilitarian was manifested.
2. Monotheistic religions
With Western imperialism, says Herbener, Christianity's built-in view of nature in particular came out into the world and helped to eliminate earlier nature religions that regarded nature as sacred. "It imposed religious restrictions on man for the exploitation of nature. With the Bible, on the other hand, gradually came partly an anthropocentrism, where man is at the center, and partly a dualism between the world and the divine. Then God stood outside nature, and man above nature," says Jens-André Herbener.
3. Industrialization
The last step in the ecological crisis was manifested by the Industrial Revolution.
From The Great Awakening to The Great Turning
The New Great Awakening of our time - The time has come; the call is clear. We, as humanity, are awakening to a pivotal, evolutionary turning point. We are learning how to transition from a life-destroying society to a life-affirming global family.
The Great Turning of our time - humanity's epochal transition from a life-destroying society to a life-affirming global ecological family, in a way that recognizes our reciprocal interdependence, protects the Earth, honors the sacred and respects all existence.
Program Structure / The Passages
The program lasts 24 months and is comprised of 7 different passages and encompasses in total 23 days of outdoor-based personal and earthly work. The passages are unique in its context but also serve as very clear stepping stones in the Earthfinder transition process. The program build on our core model of Earth-based leadership transition:
Passage 1 - The Survival
We start the journey by arriving and becoming present - alone, together and together with the more-than-human world. How can you access your true self, when there’s a lot of noise inside and around you?
The focus on Passage 1 is two-fold:
1. Learning to arrive with in yourself, with others and the natural world. Learning to become present, awake and attuned to yourself, others and natural beings and environments.
2. Discovering and connecting with your current true self, your basic psychological needs and your motivations for being, growing and your contribution in the world as you perceive and relate to it today.
Passage 1 forms the foundation for the entire Earthfinder journey and serves as a reference point, a point of departure for your transition.

Passage 2 - The Realization & Relationships
Humans are increasingly separating ourselves from the natural / more-than-human world and it’s affecting how we relate to the Earth. We live mostly in an anthropocentric life system - human are superior to all other living beings and systems and perceive them as resources that can be utilized for human pleasure.
The focus on Passage 2 is on realizing that our life-system is build on what Joanna Macy coins: “The Big Lie” and we realize through the “Great Awakening”, that the seperation between humans and the more-than-human world is an illusion. The Passage is truly immersive as we experience how deeply humans are embedded (effect and effects) in natural eco-systems and in all the reciprocal ways we shape the entire eco-system. We start the journey towards reciprocal co-existence between one- and wholeness and experiences practices to connect ourselves with Mother Earth.
In conclusion we initiate the process of what Joanna Macy calls the “Great Turning” - another anchor in the transition towards Earth-based leadership with a symbolic ritual.

Passage 3 - The Intention
Based on the understanding of your Survival needs and the Great Awakening, Passage 3 continues the process of the Great Turning with crafting your intention for your unique Earth-based ledership style.
Crafting your intention is an incrediably powerful ceremonial ritual. It’s not only about putting your intentions down on a pice of paper and into your Personal Development Plan at your work, it’s about deeply connecting and communicating with the more-than-human world. It’s about feeling what the Earth is longing for and how that resonates with you and it’s a bout practicing to listen to the answers that the more-than-human world can give you. The ceremonial ritual is carefully and respectfully designed based on self experienced Vision Quests.
You’ll experience ancient ritual practices to atune your ability to listen to your core and the messages of the natural world as we set the foundation for Passage 4 - The Transformation.

Passage 4 - The Transformation
Whereas your crafted intention towards Earth-based leadership serves as your North Star, Passage 4 is about visualizing and experiencing the steps you feel called upon to take to get there.
This passage is the inflection point in the program, as everything we’ve experienced and have been practicing so far start to materialize and emerge. It’s the marking of letting go of our Ego and prepare for the transition into our Eco. We work with the systemic change model Panarch and panarch theory and work together with natural beings and phenomenon to strengthen your transition towards Earth-based leadership. And we experience the power of resilience in the natural world and start to embed that into our transition journey.
This is also the time to start outlining your Earth / Community project (Passage 5)

Passage 5 - The Earth / Community Project
The Earth / Community Project is real life project you have to carry out. The project must have clear eco-centric objectives and circular and socio-economic output or eco connectedness score impacts.
This is not a litter collection project in your neighborhood but a measurable high impact project. The project may require that obtain funding from external resources.
Along the entire project life cycle, you’ll be supported by your mentor and learning pod for mental, emotional and bodily support.
Total duration: 4-6 months
Passage 6 - The Transition to Serving
This passage is the ritual symbolic and energetic manifestation of your Earth-based intention.
With the results and learning from the journey so far and the Passage 6 “the Earth / Community” project, this last Passage is focused around ritually letting go of what you no longer need, erupt what you’ve learned, the changes that have already manifested and crafting your pact with the Earth for integration all this into to your leadership style.

Passage 7 - The Reorientation
The final passage is the integration passage.
We gather for the last passage to embrace and embody our new Earth-based orientation. You’ll leave Passage 6 filled with clarity, peacefulness, energy and devotion to make wholehearted, real and impactful earth-based transformation of your self and the world around you.
However you may encounter challenges on your way to towards this reorientation. Passage 7 supports you in meeting and overcoming these challenges during your integration phase.
